Essentials for the Big Moving Day
Moving to a new house is a huge thing and something that takes a lot of time and careful planning. When the big day finally arrives, it can be quite daunting and overwhelming so it’s always worth creating a plan to get you through the day with as little stress as possible. From keeping certain items unboxed until the last minute, to investing in the right equipment to help you with tasks throughout the day, the following tips have been gathered to help make your day as stress-free as possible.
Before the Removals Arrive
Knowing the removal company are on route often sets off a little panic and results in your worrying about everything you haven’t yet done. Now is the time to organise your things properly. Move all of the boxes for the removal company to an easy access point, as this will help them to move them into the van when they arrive. Make sure you keep your overnight bag separate, as you’ll need essential items to live off on the first night of the move, you can’t be expected to rummage through box after box looking for toothpaste. You should then do a final check of every room, checking for furniture, making sure you haven’t left anything out on the side or forgotten to that final painting off the wall etc…
What You’ll Need
On the day of moving, you’re going to be working hard from sunrise to sunset, so it’s important to keep certain essential items to hand. In the kitchen, it’s important to have a few glasses or mugs to keep you all hydrated as the day progresses. A handful of paper towels or kitchen roll is also going to come in very useful as the day goes on, even for simple things like dusting or wiping things clean before you take them to your new home. One thing that you’ll thank yourself for keeping to hand is a range of takeaway menus, as you’re going to get hungry and need to refuel at some point!
You then need to think about things for the following evening and day. Everything you own is currently boxed up and ready to go, but it’s important to keep certain items to hand for use over the next 24 hours or so. From bed linen, phone chargers and pyjamas, to towels, shower gel and toothpaste, you need to make sure you have everything you need for the next 24hrs packed into a bag to see you through.
Keeping the Kids Entertained
It’s no secret that children have quite a short attention span and with moving to a new house, this can be slightly challenging. With people in and out of the house all day long, you want to ensure your children have somewhere to go in order to occupy themselves and stay out of the way or removal people and other family members running in and out throughout the day. Choose a quiet spot in the house (if there is one) and set your children up with some books, games and even a film for them to watch. This will help to keep them entertained and prevent them from being in any dangerous situations that moving to a new house could pose.
